Hmm well, before I started practicing parkour all I knew about were some crazy people doing something called freerunning. The sport I did then, and still do, was cross country running. I'm a little below average. My personal record at the moment is a 5 k run at 19 minutes and something seconds, don't remember exactly.
My introduction to parkour was about the end of my sophomore year in high school, about 3 weeks ago. I am really into video games and I was looking forward to the release of the game called Assassin's Creed. I decided to look on their forums to find out more about the game. (In case you don't know the game features escape sequences where the main character uses movememnts inspired by parkour) On their forums I found a thread called: anyone else do parkour? or something simmilar to that. In that thread there were several replies by "blaneuk" - Blane explaining parkour and teaching other people about how to do different movements (thank you Blane, you unknowingly got me into parkour).
After that I decided to do some research... also known as google. I read about parkour and watched a couple of videos. Next day of school I talked to a friend of mine who has been doing this stuff for a while now (2 years casually and 4 months seriously he says) (he says he's a freerunner but I've never seen him do any flips so he's a traceur to me) and told him I was interested in doing it too. Once school started we started meeting and practicing together.
My friend is now in Florida on vacation so I'm practicing alone now. I have started setting some goals to help keep me focused.
Strength Goal: 10 consecutive pullups.
At the moment I can only do 3. Shows how much running does for your arms lol.
Flexibility Goal: Touching the floor.
Hey, I've never been flexible at all, but for this I really need to be.
Technique Goal: Saut de chat
Seems impossible to get my legs through my arms, either I just need more strenght or maybe I'm thinking of it the wrong way. I'm having a much easier time learning franchissement and passe muraille.
Also been having problems with my rolls. They don't hurt when I do them but maybe an hour after practicing my rolls there's this one bone at the back of my shoulder that hurts. And I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Now my imaginary readers are up to date (because really, noone knows about this blog)
All I have to say now is:
Thank you Blane for introducing me to parkour.
